Cheap Thrills All Blues Weekend was a dance exchange weekend focusing on blues
workshops, blues dance, and blues music. The music throughout the weekend
has a strong focus on blues of many different styles and tempos, from up-tempo
blues appropriate for dancing Lindy Hop to slower music appropriate for slow
Blues dance. The intent of the weekend is not only to provide a low-cost weekend
of Blues dancing, but also to provide opportunities to learn more about Blues
dancing through workshops geared to all levels of dancers.
In its first year, Cheap Thrills was intended to be a "mini-exchange" and
workshop weekend for Missouri and the surrounding states, but it turned into
a national event, drawing far more attendees than expected. Since then, St.
Louis has become known as one of the best places to experience and to learn
social Blues dance, mostly due to the yearly success of the
St.
Louis Lindy Blues Exchange and the first
Cheap
Thrills All Blues Weekend in 2003.
